The Korean Embassy in Morocco from Sept. 12-15 opened this year's Korean Culture Festival in Khouribga, the capital of Khouribga Province.

Korean Ambassador to Morocco Yoon Sung-duk oversaw the opening of the Korean Film Festival, which was part of the culture festival, in a ceremony attended by the province's general secretary for labor, the chairman of the Khouribga collective council, the regional representative of the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and Communication, and Moroccan and foreign guests.

Three Korean films --"A Little Forest," "Assassination" and "Train to Busan" – were screened in the city of Khouribga. Other Moroccan cities like Settat, Agadir, Marrakech, Rabat and Tangier also featured activities as part of the festival.

In addition to Korean films, a cultural complex in Khouribga will host a photo exhibition of Korean heritage gardens throughout the festival period.

Embassy spokeswoman Lee Kyung-ah said the festival this year aims to celebrate the historic and distinguished relations between Korea and Morocco in several fields.

The festival featured Korean films, traditional music and exhibitions to promote bilateral cooperation, as well as give the Moroccan public the opportunity to learn more about and understand Korean culture.

The embassy said Khouribga, a major Moroccan city, is a great place to celebrate Korean culture. The city also is home to the Sharif Phosphate Complex, which plays an important role in strategic bilateral relations especially in the phosphate industry and is a key part of the Moroccan economy.

The embassy said its priority is to strengthen ties between the two countries and broaden the horizon of bilateral exchange and cooperation.

Last year saw high-level exchanges through the visit of Moroccan Prime Minister Saadeddine Othmani to Korea, Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon's trip to Morocco and the visit of a Korean parliamentary delegation to Morocco.

The Korean Cultural Center in Morocco's activities were organized in partnership with the ministry, the Moroccan Film Center, and the councils of Khouribga, Settat, Tangier, Marrakesh, Rabat and Agadir on the Moroccan side and the Korean Foundation and the Cultural Heritage Administration on the Korean side.

The festival will run until mid-October. The Korean dance group B-Boy performed with a Moroccan group on Sept. 25 at the Hassan II Resort in Rabat and will do the same in Settat on Sept. 27.
