The 2019 Korea Indonesia Film Festival (KIFF) was held from Oct. 10-13 in Java at five branches of the Korean multiplex chain CGV in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Medan and Surabaya.
The Korean Embassy and CJ CGV jointly hosted the festival. In addition to K-pop and K-dramas, K-movies are also popular in Indonesia, with domestic film producers, actors and industry representatives attending the festival.

The opening ceremony was held at CGV Grand Indonesia in Jakarta with the participation of Korean Ambassador Kim Chang-beom. Also making appearances were Korean actress Kang So-ra, who starred in the film "Sunny," and Indonesian actor Angga Aldi Yunanda.

The opening film was "The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos" by director Son Yong-ho.

In his speech, Kim said, "I'm very happy to meet Indonesian friends of Korean film lovers. I also want to thank CGV for taking part in opening this film program."

Saying KIFF, marking its tenth anniversary, has boosted relations between the two countries, he added, "Bilateral cooperation in producing joint films and running investment programs between the two countries are going well."

"Bebas," the Indonesian remake of "Sunny," is expected to raise mutual cultural understanding between Indonesians and Koreans. Kang, who played Ha Chun-hwa in the Korean film, and the main cast of the remake held a discussion on the Indonesian film with the audience.

KIFF screened 15 recent Korean films like "Extreme Job," "Miss & Mrs. Cops," "Parasite," "The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil," "The Battle: Roar to Victory," "Exit" and "Sunny" and five Indonesian works including "Keluarga Cemara," "Dua Garis Biru" (Two Blue Stripes) "Sunyi," (Death Whisper), a remake of the 1998 Korean horror film "Whispering Corridors," and "Dilan 1991."
