I always thought I was good at eating with chopsticks and could handle them as easily as I would a knife and a fork.

Recently, however, I was out with some friends at a Korean restaurant in central London, and they wanted to show me the correct way to use chopsticks. Apparently, the way I held them was incorrect, and I spent the next 10 minutes or so receiving instructions from my friends on proper form.

This was tough as it didn't come naturally to me. For some reason, it took a long time for me to apply the instructions as my fingers were doing something differently. I had to unlearn a lot of bad habits.

While getting all this great advice, I was worried that my lovely hot food was going uneaten and that I wouldn't be able to use the chopsticks in the new skillful way while eating my food. Could I ever eat again? Can you imagine the horror?

After ten years of eating Korean food, I feel like a beginner at it again. But I am getting there, slowly but surely. Has this ever happened to you and are you sure that you're holding your chopsticks the right way while eating delicious Korean food? Let us know.
