Jeju Island, one of most beautiful tourist attractions in Korea, also has suffered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many festivals have been canceled and tourist destinations closed there due to the disease. The island's government is doing everything it can to minimize the impact of the coronavirus on both residents and foreign visitors.
Despite this threat, spring has arrived in Korea. The blooming of a variety of flowers makes spring one of the most awaited seasons for travelers around the globe. Jeju, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is especially famous for canola flowers, cherry blossoms and royal azaleas.
The vast field of yellow canola flowers forms an eye-capturing panoramic view around the nearby Sanbangsan Mountain and at Gasiri Wind Power Plant. While cherry blossoms are seen beautifully along the road while riding a vehicle or passing the street of Jeongnong-ro, the locals have also decorated the trees with lanterns.
On Hallasan Mountain, the royal azalea field is incredibly picturesque because of its lovely and vibrant pink colors that give a nice contrast to the green grass on the mountain. No wonder that Jeju's spring flowers are so Instagrammable that even I eagerly want to visit to witness firsthand the natural scenery of the blooming field.
Nevertheless, April has just started and May is coming soon. This means more months of spring flowers, and my hope is that this pandemic will end sooner than later so that many people like travelers, families and couples can experience again and create good memories with these lovely spring flowers of Jeju.
