Kim Kun, a professor at Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts, has posted a video of 50 music majors at his university singing the K-pop song "Power" by EXO at home as a tribute to health workers working on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic and "to share hope and power."

Teaching music composition at the institute and guiding the volunteer club Singing Neighbors since 2009, he held a short interview on this beautiful cover.

How is your school doing amid this pandemic?
Because of the quarantine, we are just doing online classes. The freshmen haven't even seen our campus yet. We only meet students on computer monitors in group discussions.

Whose idea was it to sing for health professionals?

It was initially my idea, but when I told my colleagues and students about it in a group chat, they had very positive reactions. The next step went by very fast. It took us less than three weeks to self-practice, self-record, self-shoot, edit and upload.

Why did you choose to do a cover of EXO's "Power?"

As you know, Korea has one of the world's most successful responses to this crisis. We wanted to share our feelings of courage, hope and appreciation with medical staff that we also feel with everyone worldwide through music. Since K-pop is known globally, we began to search for the proper K-pop song. EXO's "Power" was perfect because the lyrics fit our purpose well, except for the minor rap part that we changed a little. The song is also by one of the most famous K-Pop acts.

Q: Are you planning more covers during quarantine?

Yes, but our quarantine is scheduled to expire on May 3. If the quarantine is extended, we will do more.
