Korean support for Indonesia has included aid of 500,000 masks.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Korea has supported Indonesia in various ways including donations of masks and test kits. On July 13, 500,000 Korean-made masks were sent to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) in Jakarta. The Korean Embassy in Indonesia, which facilitated the delivery of the supplies, said the Korean government pledged 625,000 KF94 masks worth USD 500,000 to help Indonesia fight COVID-19, with the additional 125,000 masks to be delivered as soon as possible.
Korean aid to Indonesia for the coronavirus in April came in the form of quarantine supplies. The support included 300 electrostatic disinfectant sprayers in the first phase and USD 400,000 worth of real-time PCR detection kits and KF94 masks in the second.
Korean business is also helping Indonesia. LG Group donated 50,000 PCR detection kits to the Indonesian government. In May, the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul collaborated with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the airline Garuda Indonesia to facilitate the donation of supplies including personal protective equipment, masks, and nutritious food and drinks from other Korean organizations such as the Korea-Indonesia Association and Shinhan University. Last month, Lotte Group donated 30,000 test kits to BNPB.
In a ceremony on July 13, BNPB expressed its gratitude to all the support from Korea and anticipation of an upgrade in bilateral relations to a special strategic partnership.
