Kimchi is great to eat with ramyeon or other types of instant noodles. (Korea.net)

Kimchi is the classic Korean side dish made from fermented vegetables including cabbage, radish and green onions, and many types of kimchi are mixed with gochugaru (chili powder), spring onions, garlic, ginger and jeotgal (salted seafood). Sweet, savory, salty and sour at the same time sound delicious, no?

A killer combination that never fails is kimchi with ramyeon (instant noodles).

Samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) is a favorite among both Koreans and non-Koreans (Korea.net)

Next on the list is samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), which is great with the traditional liquor soju. K-drama lovers can relate to this as the dramas often show characters grab drinks and the pork to end a hectic day at barbecue restaurants.

I honestly don't know how the soju-samgyeopsal combination became such a hit in Korea, but quickly understood why when I had my first taste. The pork is chewy but crispy at the same time, and soju improves the taste. One tip is to eat the pork before drinking the liquor in winter; this will help slow the body's absorption of alcohol.

Fried chicken and potato wedges are favorites in Korea usually accompanied by sweet and spicy sauce and cubed radish. (Kim Jin-kyung)

Another savory combination is seasoned chicken and chicken radish. The cubed vegetable is so named because Koreans always eat it with only one food -- chicken -- especially yangnyeom (sweet and spicy) chicken.

This combination can never go wrong since the sweet and spicy sauce produces a crunchy, sweet and refreshing taste. Stop feeling guilty over eating too much fried chicken since plenty of vegetables go with this must-try dish for all K-food lovers.
