The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the world the many facets of Korea's innovation through its high-powered technology. Korea.net Honorary Reporters have written articles on how the country has contained the spread of the coronavirus.
In May this year, I wrote an article about how Korea mass-produced COVID-19 test kits using artificial intelligence. While writing, I was amazed by how the country used one of its greatest strengths, technology, to fight the pandemic.
I was one of a few lucky Honorary Reporters whose articles were read by first lady Kim Jung-sook. I was even more thrilled to learn that I would receive a package from Cheong Wa Dae containing gifts from her and President Moon Jae-in. I was expecting nothing in return for the article since I had joined the program in March. The following are the gifts I received in the package.
Cheong Wa Dae sent me several gifts to thank me for writing an article on Korea's response to COVID-19. (Rae Catherine Roldan)
Letter of appreciation from first lady
The first lady wrote this letter to Honorary Reporters to thank them for their affection and comforting words for Korea and its people. She relayed a message hoping for good health and continued solidarity among the people, and that she looked forward to more articles later.
100 selected speeches by President Moon
Two books I received contained 100 selected speeches by President Moon in Korean and English, from his opening comments made in January last year at his New Year's news conference to his keynote speech given at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in September this year. This work will surely enrich my knowledge about Korea, its core policies and vibrant culture.
Appointment certificate for Korea.net Honorary Reporter
This certificate with my name and appointment date inscribed came in a blue velvet holder with the emblem of the Korean Culture and Information Service. Receiving this gave me a sense of pride and purpose to continue my passion. It is also a symbol of my commitment to producing notable articles and content for the program.
Pin badge
This small badge has the official Honorary Reporter logo, perfect for carrying wherever I go. I will wear this badge as a reminder of who I am and where I belong — the Korea.net Honorary Reporter family.
