Striker Son Heung-min of the English Premier League's (EPL) Tottenham Hotspur on Dec. 12 was named this year's winner. Considered one of the world's best wingers, he in 2019 became the first Asian to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or, a honor that goes to the world's top player.

Also the first Asian player to score 50 goals in the EPL, he beat out Giorgian De Arrascaeta of Brazil's Flamengo and Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz of Spain's Atletico Madrid to win the Puskas Award.
