I've been a K-drama fan for four years, so sometimes I see scenes in which people eat. Though ramyeon (instant noodles) is the most common Korean food I've seen in such dramas, kimchi is almost always there, too.

In December last year, I attended a kimchi-making event hosted by the Korean Culture Center in Jakarta with a Korean chef. This was my first time to make and eat kimchi, in this case, baechu (cabbage) kimchi.

I started by soaking kimchi cabbage in water to make it soft and easy to fill. I then prepared other ingredients by cutting onions, cabbage and leek and then mixing them with salt, sugar, garlic, fish oil and gochugaru (spicy red chili powder). Afterwards, I tasted it and was so surprised as it was my first time doing so.

After mixing all the ingredients mentioned above, I took the cabbage out after it soaked for an hour or two. Then I filled it with the ingredients I mixed carefully and evenly. The class had to taste the paste before applying it on the cabbage.

I made four sets of the kimchi and brought them home. Though I still couldn't get used to the taste of kimchi, as in I cannot eat it only with rice or instant noodles, I made kimchi fried rice. It was so tasty that even my sisters loved it.

I was so happy to make my first kimchi. (Anti Albaqiya)
