A food often seen in K-dramas is jeon (pancake), which is usually served with dipping sauce. The following are five types of the popular side dish to make at home.
Kimchijeon (kimchi)
This dish is made with kimchi, wheat flour, egg, salt, sugar and water. The other ingredients used make this slightly less spicy than kimchi. This pancake is often served crispy and thin.
Pajeon (green onion)
This is the basic type of jeon with pa (green onion) as the key ingredient. Its simple batter is made from wheat flour, egg, green onion and vegetables like carrots and red pepper.
Dubujeon (tofu)
This uses tofu as the base ingredient along with egg, green onion, carrot, yellow onion and chili. This is especially tasty for vegans and can be eaten with or without dipping sauce.
Haemul pajeon (seafood and green onion)
This is one of the most popular jeon types in Korea. Made with wheat flour, green onion, and a mixture of seafood such as squid and shrimp, it is a great appetizer, side dish or snack for seafood lovers.
Gamjajeon (potato)
For easier cooking, this type is made with grated or mashed potato, green onion, carrot, yellow onion and potato starch. This crispy and chewy pancake is a perfect snack for a rainy day.
