Insa-dong is a Seoul neighborhood famous as a shopping destination for souvenirs and other items from traditional Korean arts and culture.
The many art galleries there feature traditional and contemporary art and stores selling traditional handicrafts such as wooden masks, folding fans, boxes, embroidered craft and bokjumeoni (lucky bags). Shoppers can also find ceramic and metal craftworks such as chopsticks, spoons, forks and bookmarks as well as Hanbok, cute stationery, socks and fashion accessories.
For those looking for food, Insa-dong is also great for traditional Korean cuisine and snacks.
When I first visited the neighborhood in 2015, I was with my friend walking around when suddenly a seller approached me and spoke my country's language. I was both surprised and impressed by her. I bought traditional souvenirs because of their uniqueness and beautiful colors, and my friend bought six quality handbags at affordable prices.
Insa-dong is great for discovering Korea's unique tradition and culture.
