Summer in Korea is awesome, especially for desserts. The following are several Korean desserts to cool down from the summer heat.
Bingsu
This traditional dessert featuring sweet toppings on shaved ice is the most popular in Korea. The classic version is patbingsu (red bean) but many other flavors have appeared such as melon, mango, strawberry, green tea, sweet potato and rice cake.
Bungeoppang ice cream
Bungeoppang is a fish-shaped bun filled with red bean paste. Though normally served as a hot snack, bungeoppang also has an ice cream version featuring a wide-open mouth filled with ice cream and other toppings.
Tall ice cream
This 32-cm tall ice cream cone comes in various flavors like vanilla, chocolate, green tea and yogurt. It's not too sweet and the flavors blend well.
Subak hwachae
This traditional dessert is popular during summer. The base of Korean-style watermelon punch is traditionally made with honey or sugar dissolved in water but today, a soft drink, fruit juice or milk is more commonly used.
Ice cream waffle
This waffle has ice cream inside along with other toppings like honey, chocolate or fruit. The combination of a crunchy waffle and soft ice cream is good.
Melon ice cream
This ice cream flavor has grown popular both in Korea and abroad thanks to a good combination of the melon taste with a creamy milk flavor.
