Son Heung-min is the Korea Tourism Organization's latest honorary ambassador.

The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has appointed soccer striker Son Heung-min as honorary ambassador. The Tottenham Hotspur star from September will promote tourism in Korea to people around the world.

Under the theme "This is my Korea, what's yours?" the KTO will produce a series of videos and photos featuring the bonds and similarities between Korea and other countries.

Korea Tourism Organization CEO Ahn Young-bae on July 6 poses with Son Heung-min at the latter's ceremony for his appointment as KTO honorary ambassador in Seoul.

His appointment that came on July 6 is expected to raise interest in Korea especially in Europe, where he has numerous fans. Promotional materials from September will be placed on YouTube and Facebook as well as on Son's social media.

Joining Tottenham in 2015, Son in February last year became the first Asian player to score 50 in the English Premier League and achieved another first by a player from the continent by making the 2020-21 English Professional Footballers' Association Team of the Year.

Son Heung-min's signature goal celebration is gesturing as if taking a photo with a camera.

Son on July 5 also had a limited edition of bills and coins released with his image by the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp. And given his charitable nature, part of the proceeds from sales will go to a foundation for soccer program development for youth. July 8 was his 29th birthday, so he had a lucky week.

This is the second time for the player to serve as honorary ambassador, first having done so in 2017 for Gangwon-do Province, where he was born. As a fan of Son myself, I am excited about his collaboration with the KTO and that he will help more people discover this amazing country called Korea.
