The Talk Talk Korea contest this year has lots of interesting topics on the occasion of the Korean Culture and Information Service's (KOCIS) 50th anniversary. The competition is open to both Koreans and non-Koreans in a variety of categories like making a K-pop music video, doing a Hanbok video shoot, creating digital art related to Korea. 

The newest section is the "Masked Singer Challenge," in which a contestant sings a Korean song while covering his or her face with a mask he or she made in the spirit of the hit Korean TV show "King of Mask Singer" or using other Korean-related props.

I submitted entries in two sections: Korea media art and designing an original emoji for KOCIS.
The two original emojis I created are shown below.

I designed the emoji above with 12 expressions per the contest rules showing a lion featured in the traditional Korean mask dance talchum. This dance was first performed by clowns at court events, but in the late Joseon Dynasty, it spread to the public and developed into popular culture. This art's basic themes include exorcism rituals, satire, human flaws, social evils and society's elite. One of the most known versions of this dance is Bongsan talchum, which was designated National Intangible Cultural Asset No. 17 in 1967. 

The second emoji I made is of a dol hareubang, a symbol of Jeju Island in Korea. Many of these statues made from volcanic stone are scattered on the island. The name is derived from the Korean word dol (stone) and the Jeju dialect term hareubang (grandfather or elderly man). The statues are believed to have been inspired by the jangseung (village guardian totem pole).
