The lyrics of K-pop star Jay Park's 2018 hit "Soju" have always motivated me to work hard. So I was pleasantly stunned when I heard his plans to launch his own soju brand (traditional clear liquor), Won Soju.
Won Soju on Feb. 25 is displayed at its first pop-up store within the department store The Hyundai Seoul.
Won Soju's first pop-up store opened on Feb. 25 at the department store The Hyundai Seoul. That was my lucky day as my quarantine had ended, and there was no better start to my life as an exchange student in Korea than with traditionally distilled soju made from 100% Korean rice.
The week-long launch of the drink exceeded expectations by drawing more than 30,000 customers and selling 20,000 bottles. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a precious bottle, but had to wait about four hours in line to buy it and take pictures at the photo booth.
I wanted to enjoy Won Soju in the best way possible, so I drank it with friends by the Hangang River. The taste was clean and soft, and the attention to detail was superb, from an intriguing design to the use of fabric as a label.
I was so glad that Won Soju marked my introduction to soju and the start of my life in Korea.
