Spring in Korea is officially here, and that means spring flowers are blooming. I spent the first weekend of this month seeing them in the country's southern region, where I live, as cherry blossoms bloom earlier than in the north.

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom in spring along Geumocheon Stream in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

On April 2, my husband and I went to Geumosan Provincial Park in our city of Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. On the way to the park, we walked along Geumocheon Stream, which connects downtown Gumi to Geumosan Mountain.

Both sides of the stream are the perfect place to admire beautiful cherry blossom trees. We were joined by lots of people who also came to see the blossoms. My husband said he had not seen so many people in almost three years.

With our spirits boosted by the cherry blossoms, we spent the next day in the peaceful Uiseong Sansuyu Village in Uiseong-gun County. Every spring, this town turns golden when sansuyu (cornelian cherry) flowers see the peak of their blossoms.

My husband and I are huge fans of sansuyu blossoms. Every spring since 2015, we go on an hour drive around the village to immerse ourselves in nature: the clear blue sky, lush green mountains, golden blossoms and no skyscrapers in sight.

Spring is when sansuyu (cornelian cherry) flowers create a yellow spectacle in Uiseong Sansuyu Village of Uiseong-gun County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
