The Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) in Nigeria has held quite a few events this summer bringing students and Hallyu fans together. The following are among the highlights of the events.

K-pop dance session

The wives of foreign ambassadors in Abuja on Aug. 5 were invited to the KCC for a K-pop dance session taught by instructor Jay Kim. They learned how to dance in the unique Korean style and got a feel for moving to Korean pop.

'Memories of Joseon'

The "Memories of Joseon" event on Aug. 3 allowed participants to try on Hanbok, drink Korean tea and take photographs that were printed and hanged on the center's wall.

Taekwondo event

The KCC hosted the graduation of 40 taekwondo practitioners from five public schools in Abuja and held demonstrations.

K-pop Music Festival 

The KCC on July 23 hosted its 2022 K-Pop Music Festival at the Sheraton Hotel in Abuja, featuring popular dance instructor Kim and Praise Nelson, head of Pacific Starz, winner of the 2015 K-pop World Festival, as guests of honor. Also attending were Korean Ambassador to Nigeria Kim Young-chae and KCC Director Bae Sung-jin.

Folk dance

The July edition of the popular "12 Months of Korea" series featured folk dance, displaying the artistic components of Korean dance. The picturesque display had information and tips on such dance and Korean appreciation of nature.


Contests

The variety of contests included those on the Korean language, K-pop dance and singing with the winners receiving cash and other prizes. Also, a survey was conducted on the Nigerian public on expanding Korean-language education in more cities. 


Student visits

Students from schools in Abuja visited the KCC to experience Korean culture like traditional masks, Hangeul, art, Hanok (traditional architecture) and other aspects of Korean heritage.
