The Korean Cultural Center in Jakarta on Aug. 26 held the event "Hanbok Exploring Jakarta" in the Indonesian capital.

Hanbok always grabs attention thanks to its colorful and beautiful designs. This is what I saw last weekend after joining a group of youngsters wearing an array of styles of the traditional Korean clothing on the streets of Jakarta. They appeared in public to promote Korean culture and introduce Hanbok to Indonesians.

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Jakarta on Aug. 26 held the event "Hanbok Exploring Jakarta," attracting about 20 Hallyu fans as participants. They were divided into two groups to visit three leading spots in Jakarta: the National Monument, Bundaran Hotel Indonesia and Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. They took public transportation from one spot to the other wearing Hanbok.

The two Hanbok-clad groups took the subway to visit famous spots in Jakarta.

Several members were asked by passersby to take pictures together and others told curious bystanders about Hanbok. This was a fun and creative way to raise awareness of other facets of Korean culture, not only K-pop and K-dramas.

A college student participating in the event said this was the first time she wore Hanbok. "By joining this event, I know how it feels to wear Hanbok," she said. "I'm impressed by its combination of bright colors. It's unique and its detailed ornaments make it look elegant."

Another member who also wore Hanbok for the first time said, "Joining this event is my way of expressing my interest in Korean culture. I feel lucky to wear Hanbok originally from Korea. I love it because of its beautiful colors and designs, so I feel confident wearing it in public."

Around 20 people on Aug. 26 participated the KCC's "Hanbok Exploring Jakarta" event.
