As part of its ninth world tour, ‘Super Junior World Tour - Super Show 9: Road,’ top K-pop boy band Super Junior performed in four countries in Latin America – Santiago, Chile on Feb. 7; Sao Paolo, Brazil on Feb. 9; Lima, Peru on Feb. 11; and Mexico City on Feb. 14 and 15.

The tour began last July in Seoul, followed by Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Manila, and the idol group continued their journey this year starting with South America.

Before the concert

Last December, Super Junior announced plans to perform in Latin America through tour agency, Music Vibe. Our branch of the Super Junior fan community, ELF (Ever Lasting Friends), suggested and changed the Mexico City venue into more spacious and safer place than the previously designated one. Two days before Christmas, we were able to buy tickets even though they sold out rapidly after going on sale, leaving many fans discouraged as they were unable to purchase one.

Super Junior is the first K-pop group to perform on two consecutive days in Latin America. On Feb. 15, we had the opportunity to attend the second show in Mexico City.

The concert began at 8:30 p.m. at the Arena CDMX entertainment center, where thousands of fans illuminated the venue with sapphire blue light sticks. It was such a great moment to see the group in Mexico again after a five-year gap. The group delighted us with their most popular songs, including "Sorry, Sorry," "Devil," "Mamacita," "Black Suit" and "Burn The Floor" among many others.

How we enjoyed the show

Laura: I have participated in the ELF fan community for 14 years. Super Junior has been at the center of my interest in Korean culture, and this was the second time for me to see them in concert. What I liked the most this time was their dedication, enthusiasm and the way they interacted with us. They said a few words in Spanish and sang their songs using some of our language: “Lo siento” and “Ahora te puedes marchar” for example. The stage set had an amazing light show and fireworks were set off increasing the excitement.

I also had the opportunity to participate in the "TE AMO" project organized by the 'Unión ELF México' fan club, where concertgoers in selected areas turned their light sticks on and held them with their arms outstretched at the height of their shoulders, to form each of the letters, "TE AMO” (I love you). It was really gratifying that the Super Junior members were excited to see our message. It was so incredible for me. Super Junior always fills me with their vibrant energy and I feel their love for my country. Especially this time, I was pleased to see that there were several different age groups and many men in the audience, too.

Iran: I decided to be part of the ELF community 12 years ago when I first heard a very strange song. The singers wore colorful outfits and they spread, through their lyrics of their song, the message of being simply as you are. The song was "Mr. Simple." Since then, I have enjoyed listening to all their songs. I’ve decided to learn Korean, and look forward to their visits. I have not missed any of the concerts they have given in Mexico.

In this concert, what I most liked was the interaction they had with ELF, since in most of the intervals after each song they spoke Spanish without a translator. Fans appreciated this because we could feel the love and affection that Super Junior feels for us.

During all the songs, an atmosphere full of energy was transmitted. It was a show with excellent audio, sound and lighting. Something that moved me a lot was how the lights synchronized with each of their songs, changing colors and moving to the rhythm of the melodies automatically.

Being able to attend this concert in the company of my friend, my sister and my mother was a great experience that I will never forget, because it showed how through the years Super Junior continues to be one of the most popular and strongest K-pop groups in Mexico. We always get excited to see them as if it were the first time. We hope to see them again soon. In the meantime, stay healthy so you too can see your favorite bands this year.
