My friends and I pose for a photo on a street in Jeonju wearing Hanbok.

The city of Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province, is known for its centuries-old history, food and architecture that creates a mesmerizing combination of tradition and modernity.

Korea's southwestern region is famous for its hearty and diverse traditional cuisine. Designated a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2012, Jeonju is famous for its version of bibimbap, or rice mixed with vegetables, meat and gochujang (spicy red chili sauce).

I believe that a great way to experience a culture is through its diverse cuisine. During a cultural trip that my university organized to Jeonju on April 15, I got to make bibimbap, the first time I made a Korean dish.

Bibimbap is made with rice, vegetables, eggs and meat.

Jeonju Hanok Village is also one of Korea's most famous tourist attractions. Built during the Joseon Dynasty, the area has over 800 Hanok (traditional architecture) homes that display distinctive features ranging from tiled roofs to wooden beams and engrossing courtyards.

I've immersed myself in traditional Korean culture through activities, the most memorable being wearing Hanbok. It was easy to rent one in the area given the many shops nearby. Choosing what to wear was not that easy, however. Ranging from simple and colorful designs to more sophisticated styles similar to those worn by the royal family, every piece looked attractive to me.

While strolling the streets of Jeonju wearing the outfit I finally chose, I felt as if I was traveling back in time and discovering more of Korea's hidden appeal and well-preserved culture. Walking in Hanbok was far more comfortable than I expected as it provides a lot of space to move easily.

This is Hanbyeok Tunnel, where the hit K-drama "Twenty-Five, Twenty-One" was filmed.

As a K-drama enthusiast, I couldn't miss going to the filming location of the 2022 romantic series "Twenty-Five, Twenty-One." My first stop was Crossing Guesthouse, where the main characters meet for the first time, and while it isn't open to the public, I enjoyed seeing the area in front of the stairs.

My second stop was Hanbyeok Tunnel, another major spot appearing in the drama. It was unsurprisingly filled with couples who snapped photos of each other.

Visiting the city in spring offered a fresh and modern atmosphere that blended perfectly with the traditional vibes there. Jeonju is thus a can't-miss destination for those interested in immersing themselves in Korea's rich history and traditions.
