Lincoln Center in New York from July 19-22 hosted Korean Arts Week as part of the event "Summer for the City." Rockefeller Center held its own event, "Celebrate Korea at Rockefeller Center," over the same period in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

As a huge admirer of performing and visual arts, I attended both events from July 21-22.

This is the "silent disco" held on July 21 at Lincoln Center in New York.

At Korean Arts Week, I attended the "silent disco" event on July 21 on the outdoor dance floor at Lincoln Center Plaza. I'd never experienced something like this, and the event was true to its name since the venue was silent other than the chatter of confused attendees.

Once I put on the headphones provided, the space immediately transformed into a K-pop concert filled with popular songs from the genre played by DJ Peach. This unique experience was enjoyed by both K-pop fans and people unfamiliar with the genre.

Lincoln Center on July 21 hosts an outdoor screening of "The Host."

That night, I also saw an outdoor screening of the Korean blockbuster film "The Host" by director Bong Joon-ho, who directed my favorite film "Parasite." We received wireless headsets just like at the silent disco and the film was shown in Korean with English subtitles. I'm glad that "The Host" was screened in Korean as it added to the authenticity of the film.

New York on July 22 hosts the event "Celebrate Korea at Rockefeller Center."

I went to Rockefeller Center on July 22 to participate in events hosted by the KTO. Attendees could try free activities like wearing Hanbok, sampling Korean food and drink  at booths, seeing live art and playing traditional games. Another booth gave information on tourism in Korea.

The exhibition "Discovery: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea" runs through Aug. 27 at Rockefeller Center.

I also went to see the exhibition "Discovery: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea" at Rockefeller Center, which ends on Aug. 27. The works displayed were by the younger generation of contemporary Korean artists in a range of media and styles.

Thus both events in New York offered an amazing opportunity for the American public to experience Korean art and culture.
