The card game Play KK was one of 10 projects selected in May for this year's Public Diplomacy Project of the Korea Foundation.

This is the promotional poster for Play KK events in Korea and Kenya.

Led by the Kenyan design team Afrogamehada, Play KK is a card game about the cultures of Korea and Kenya culture presented at Baekma Middle School in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do Province, as well as at King Sejong Institute, TUK Design Lab Forum and Cheche Gallery in Kenya.

Afrogamehada team members Joshua Wera and Jung Ink-yung discuss strategies for the card game at Arfrohada Studio in Incheon.

Because Afrogamehada comprises people from several nations, it conducts most of its work online. Members this month have completed a significant portion of their work and are preparing to release the project.

Play KK's deck of cards has 46 illustrated artworks, 23 of which reflect facts about Korea and the other half about Kenya.

The PC (left) of Afrogamehada team leader Shin Hae-su displays artworks and shown on the right are Play KK's event cards (right).

There are two ways to play the game. The first is to match the Kenyan cards to those on Korea in the same category and the second is to create a story through card arrangement. Players choose one of four occupations as the main character: historian, blogger, chef or United Nations intern.

An augmented reality version of the game is available on the smartphone app Artivive.

Because Play KK can be played by people of all generations and ethnicities, I feel that the game will bring families and friends closer together through learning about Korean and Kenyan culture.
