The upcoming Disney+ series "L-Pop" about K-pop and its fans in Mexico and Latin America is set for release on Sept. 27.

The following are excerpts from a Sept. 12 in-person interview with actor Andrea de Alba, who plays the show's main character and discusses both "L-Pop" and Hallyu.

Actor Andrea de Alba (right in each photo) plays the main character in "L-Pop," a Disney+ series about K-pop and its fans in Mexico and Latin America.

Briefly introduce yourself.

I'm originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. Since I was a child, I've been deeply involved in radio broadcasting and hosting. Dancing, acting and singing have been lifelong passions of mine as well.

How did you get into Hallyu, specifically K-pop?
My first encounter with K-pop was back in 2013 with BIG BANG's "Fantastic Baby." But it wasn't until 2018 that I started delving deeper into Korean culture thanks to my best friend. His enthusiasm for Hallyu rubbed off on me.

What is "L-Pop" about?
The series takes viewers into Andrea's life, showcasing her journey as a K-pop enthusiast, dental student and restaurant employee in Mexico City's Koreatown. Her younger sister documents Andrea's pursuit of her dream of becoming a K-pop artist in Korea and the numerous obstacles along the way.

Describe the cover dance competition in the series and how it fits into the series.
A significant element in "L-Pop" is the annual cover dance competition organized by Korean Cultural Centers worldwide, including that in Mexico. What's fascinating is that the winners of this competition get the opportunity to compete in Korea. This storyline allows "L-Pop" to delve deeply into the world of K-pop fandom.

How does the show blend elements of Korean and Mexican cultures?
"L-Pop" was made with immense respect for both Korean and Mexican cultures. A dedicated team worked tirelessly to ensure that cultural details remained accurate and respectful. This respect extends not only to the essence of Mexico and Korea but also the passionate K-pop fanbase.

What did you enjoy most about working on the production?
On a more personal note, "L-Pop" was a catalyst for me to openly embrace my identity as a K-pop fan. Moreover, the series allowed me to share the many positive facets of Korean culture with a broader audience. For example, my grandparents started watching K-dramas and are eager to explore Korean history and cuisine.

What message do you have for those who will watch "L-Pop?"
I express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support we've received even before the series' release. The entire production team is brimming with excitement to convey a positive message not only to those familiar with Korean culture but also those who simply enjoy Disney content on Disney+.
