The Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka on March 10 took part in an event marking the 27th annual Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Day at the seaside urban park Galle Face Green in Columbo.
Last year, Sri Lanka was named chair country of IORA, a Mauritius-based international group of 23 countries bordering the Indian Ocean that involves governments, business and academia for promoting economic cooperation and social development.
Under the theme "A Sustainable Indian Ocean for Future Generations," the event organized by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs had students from across the island country attend with diplomats from IORA member states.
The embassy highlighted Korea's strategy to protect the oceans and introduced the haenyeo, or female divers on Jeju Island who collect seafood from underwater as their livelihood, at the Korea Corner.
