By Honorary Reporters Ioanna Roumelioti from Greece and Dimitris Markou from Greece

The Korean Embassy in Greece and Sejong Culture Academy from July 5-6 held K-pop dance classes in Athens at a nearby dance studio to promote Korean culture.

The classes had two engaging sessions. In the first, teacher and Korean culture expert Song Ye-seul explained the characteristics of K-pop and its evolution over the years, culminating with the genre's role in spreading the Korean language and culture.

The second was a dance workshop. Students voted for what songs and routines they wanted to use in class, and Song showed them the choreography, with her technical instruction promoting an energetic atmosphere.

The following are excerpts from an interview on July 6 with Song.

What do you like most about teaching around the world?

Meeting a lot of different people. Every country has a particular energy and it's fun to teach there because I can feel their passion for Korea. It even amazes me sometimes, as I feel I'm seeing a new side of Korea every time. Thanks to them, I see the admirable aspects of Korea I didn't notice before.

What difficulties have you had in teaching students from different cultures?

I don't find it challenging because everyone who applies for the K-pop class genuinely wants to learn. Their eagerness makes it easy for me as they're all enthusiastic about K-pop dance, and I feed off of their energy.

What advice do you have for aspiring dancers who wish to pursue K-pop?

Every dancer brings a unique style to a dance. I hope they enjoy K-pop and keep dancing with their own unique styles. That's the best way to enjoy K-pop.
