The Korean Business Edge Seminar: Skills for the Next Generations on Oct. 1 at Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi, India, sought to inform students majoring in Korean about employment opportunities with Korean multinational companies.
The seminar opened with a speech by Korea SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprise) and Startups Agency (KOSME) President Lee Jae-kyeong, who highlighted his organization's efforts to foster partnerships between Korean SMEs and Indian businesses, working alongside key Indian partners like the National Small Industries Corp., Invest India, and Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer.
He also discussed the Global Business Center, which assists Korean companies in entering foreign markets. Stressing collaboration between academia and industry, he added that KOSME aims to facilitate internships, job placement and joint projects to empower students to secure their future.

Following the seminar, a Korean typing competition featured one student from each batch. Each contestant had five minutes to demonstrate their speed in typing Hangeul.
The winner was Insha Sabih, a sophomore majoring in Korean, followed by Aysha Nawaz, a second-year master's student, in second and Shazia Khan, a first-year master's student, in third. All three received certificates and prizes.

The next session saw professor Lee Myung-e discussed Korean corporate culture, mentioning that 594 Korean companies are operating in or expanding to India. She explained the need to understand things like hoesik (company gathering) to promote team bonding through meals; bballi bballi (fast fast) work culture reflecting Korean urgency to achieve goals; and working yageun (overtime).
Afterward, a job fair and counseling had representatives from three Korean companies -- InBody, Vina Tech and IBS General Trading Pvt. Ltd., the agent for the Korean bottled water company Samdasoo -- assess the job skills and interests of students.
