"Mickey in the Palace: Art Beyond Boundaries" is an exhibition being held at Dongdeokjeon Hall, a historic Western-style building within Deoksugung Palace of Seoul that was a royal guesthouse during the Daehan (Korean) Empire era (1897-1910).
A hundred years later, it was reopened to the public last month with its original design meticulously restored. Running through Oct. 20, the display showcases the lovable Disney character and his friends exploring Seoul.
In collaboration with the Korea Heritage Service, the exhibition marks Disney's centennial anniversary at Deoksugung, one of the five major palaces of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Built in the 15th century, Deoksugung is known for its blend of traditional Korean and Western architecture from the 19th century, beautiful garden and changing of the guard ceremony.

I experienced the exhibition through a brief video tour and explored multiple works showcased on the social media of artist Wooh Nayoung and YouTube channel of content creator Choi Ari.
The reopening of Dondeokjeon after 100 years coincides with Mickey Mouse's centennial anniversary. The innovative portrayals of the characters highlight their costumes and iconic Seoul locations, blending old traditions with modern elements.
The exhibition features works inspired by Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip and Dale exploring Seoul, featuring Korean heritage through the artists' perspectives.

The exhibition also features photo opp spots throughout Deoksugung featuring Disney characters.
