On Jan. 7, I joined a tour promoting the Korea Grand Sale, the nation's top shopping festival, to Muju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province, a stunning destination blending adventure and cultural heritage.

Our itinerary featured skiing at Muju Deogyusan Resort and an interactive visit to Taekwondowon, the world's only complex devoted to taekwondo.

At 10:30 a.m., we arrived at the resort, famous for its skiing facilities. After renting gear including shoes, clothing and helmets, we geared up to ski.

As a first-time skier, I received guidance from a coach who taught the basics. The resort caters to all levels, and gliding down the slopes with the crisp winter air was an invigorating start to the day.

After lunch, we went to Taekwondowon and first visited the Taekwondo Museum, which highlights the history, philosophy and global influence of the martial art. Next, we rode the facility's monorail and saw panoramic mountain views before arriving at a cafe at the Observatory to relax and take photos with coffee.

The day concluded with a "healing taekwondo" gymnastics session, or gentle taekwondo-inspired movements that promoted physical rejuvenation.
