On Jan. 7, I visited Muju Wild Grape Cave as part of this year's Korea Grand Sale special locations. Located in Muju City, North Jeolla-do Province, the cave is renowned for its unique approach to Korean wine production. The winery's consistent temperature of 13 degrees Celsius is ideal for preserving wine, according to our guide. The wine is made from wild grapes, or meoru, which are rich in nutrients and flavor. I had the opportunity to taste three of the six distinct wines produced through fermentation at this exceptional winery.

Muju Wine Cave is not only a place for making and storing wine, but also invites visitors to walk through the history of Muju through memories preserved in old pictures. The bright decorations transform the cave into a magical escape from winter and create a perfect atmosphere for chatting and enjoying wine.

Experiencing Wine Foot Bath Therapy

In addition to wine tasting, Muju Wild Grape Cave offers several unique activities. Visitors can write a letter to their future self, friends, or family, which will be delivered after a year. Another highlight is wine foot bath therapy, where you soak your feet in hot water, followed by the addition of sweet Gucheondong wine to the bath. This therapy relaxes muscles, softens the skin, and improves blood circulation. Souvenirs and snacks are also available at a nearby local store, making for a complete and relaxing experience.
