British actor Liam Edwards plays a supporting role in the sci-fi film "Mickey 17," the latest work by Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho.

In January, Edwards, 28, wrote on Instagram, "Loved working on this film!" He has appeared in movies like "1917" (2019), "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (2023) and the TV series "House of the Dragon" (2024).

Below are excerpts from a March 7 email interview with the actor.

Briefly describe your acting career and who you play in "Mickey 17."

I started performing in school productions like "Guys and Dolls" and "Cider with Rose." My breakthrough came through when director Sam Mendes chose me for "1917," which led to roles in "Masters of the Air" and "A Very Royal Scandal." For "Mickey 17," my agent proposed that I play a police officer, and director Bong personally selected me. I play an officer who handles "multiples" (illegal clones) and processes the arrest of Alan Manikova.

How was working with director Bong and the production team?

It was incredible. He's remarkably detail-oriented like directing hand movements and specific poses. Though he speaks good English, he would sometimes switch to Korean, with his interpreter Sharon Choi providing excellent interpretation. The filming process was smooth despite the warm studio conditions. The sets were spectacular, and director Bong's positive attitude created a relaxed atmosphere that made everyone comfortable.

What message would you like to share about the film and your future projects?

Viewers should prepare for a unique sci-fi experience that blends dark comedy with serious themes. The story really makes you empathize with Mickey's struggle against authority. Korean audiences should be proud of Bong's artistic vision and how he showcases Korean talent globally.

As for my future work, look out for my roles in "Fuze" and Netflix's "Out of the Dust" later this year. Hopefully, I'll travel to Korea and immerse myself in the wonderful culture there.
