The animated musical "KPop Demon Hunters" is a global hit on Netflix, earning 9.2 million views within just two days of its June 20 release.
Marc Peter Baluyan, an independent singer, songwriter and entertainer and a fixture on Philippine TV, radio, social media, business presentations and film, voiced the lead male character Jinu for the Filipino-dubbed version.
Earning a bachelor's degree in communications and psychology from the prestigious Ateneo de Manila University, he went on to earn an MBA from the same school. He has also trained at the Center for Pop Music Philippines, Music School of Ryan Cayabyab and ABS-CBN Star Magic Workshops, and in 2010, he received the Loyola Schools Award for the Arts from his alma mater.
The following are excerpts from an email interview with Baluyan from June 24-26.

Briefly introduce yourself.
I'm an independent artist who hosts events and does voiceover work. I trained in both pop vocals and musical theater and was a member of a student musical organization. I performed part time while maintaining a day job until after college, where I carved out a full-time career as a singer-songwriter, event host and voiceover.
How did the opportunity to work on "KPop Demon Hunters" come about?
Some voice actors recommended me to the project manager of the team handling localization of the movie. Despite being new to singing projects, I embraced this unique opportunity. My experience as a singer, host and voice talent, combined with consistent practice, contributed to my readiness for the role.
What does voicing Jinu mean to you as a performer?
Deep down somehow, I knew this was the role for me, that I was the right person for the job. After watching the film and seeing everyone's appreciation for it on social media, I feel very proud, honored and grateful.
I want to believe that I unlocked something here. This is a career milestone, something that will open more doors and windows, an important step toward more opportunities.

What is your opinion of "KPop Demon Hunters" and its Filipino-language version?
This is a spectacular film worth watching due to its stunning visuals, the way the characters are written, story trajectory and lessons on friendship. Also, the music is captivating and leaves a lasting impression long after viewing.
The Philippine versions of the script and songs are superb, capturing the film's original themes, emotions and nuances. So the production was well adapted to the Filipino language and culture.
