The Korean Embassy in Iran on Sept. 10 hosted a reception to mark two major Korean holidays: National Foundation Day (Oct. 3) and Armed Forces Day (Oct. 1) at the ambassador's official residence in Tehran. 

These two dates hold profound meaning, honoring both the ancient origins of their nation and the dedication of those who protect its modern peace in Korea.

Hosted by Ambassador to Iran Kim Junpyo and his wife, the event brought together diplomats, Iranian officials, cultural figures and guests to highlight the close ties between the two countries. In a speech, Ambassador Kim reflected on over six decades of bilateral relations.

A highlight of the evening was an exhibition of Iranian paintings inspired by Kushnameh, a Persian epic linking Iran with the ancient Silla Kingdom (57 B.C.– A.D. 935) of Korea. The paintings offered a visual interpretation of the encounter between a Persian prince and a Silla princess.

The Mithra Orchestra and Choir performed "Arirang," Korea's iconic folk song. The atmosphere grew more lively when Ambassador Kim joined the orchestra and sang two famous Iranian songs, "Soltane Ghalbha" and "Porsoon Porsoon."

A Korean mini museum featured displays of Korean culture and traditions, while other exhibits complemented the artistic program. Korean and Iranian dishes were also served.

The National Day and Armed Forces Day celebration brought together elements of history, contemporary culture and personal connection to reflect on a relationship that has continued for more than six decades.
