The day before Parents' Day, a senior citizen living in the Sinwol 7-dong neighborhood of Seoul's Yangcheon-gu District on May 7 receives a carnation after getting washed blankets. Korea in 1956 designated Mother's Day on May 8 and held events thereafter to mark the holiday, but changed it to Parents' Day in 1973.
