The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration from June 22 opens the back of Sungnyemun Gate in Seoul's Jung-gu District for the first time since 2008, when the national monument was hit by fire. The back gate is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. like the main gate. Shown here is a guard performance in the afternoon marking the reopening. One of the most important military rituals of the Joseon Dynasty, the performance connects the ceremonies for the gate's opening and closing and its patrols.
