A dedication ceremony on the afternoon of Sept. 29 is held at Hwaeomsa Temple in Masan-myeon Township of Gurye-gun County, Jeollanam-do Province, to announce the completed restoration of the Four Lion Three-story Stone Pagoda.
Designated National Treasure No. 35, the pagoda, whose unique feature is two male and two female stone lions on the stylobate, is believed to have been built in the mid-eighth century during the Unified Silla period. A detailed study in 2011 led to calls for the relic's restoration, and the completion of the disassembly and repair of the pagoda has brought back its original form. The height of the structure is now is 7.1 m, width 4.2 m and weight about 50 tons.
