Amid late summer heat on Oct. 5, the fountain in front of the May 18 Democracy Square at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju's Dong-gu District shoots cool streams of water. The Korea Meteorological Administration said the inflow of warm southwesterly winds will result in record-high temperatures this month, while the southern region will see hotter days of around 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature is similar to the average in late August, as this month will see the mercury rise four to six degrees higher than usual.
