Marking Hansik (Cold Food Day), one of the nation's 24 traditional solar terms of a lunar year, landscapers on April 6 trim silver grass covering the burial mound of Geonwonneung, the grave of Joseon Dynasty founder Yi Seong-gye, among Donggureung (East Nine Royal Tombs) in Guri, Gyeonggi-do Province. Coming 105 days after the winter solstice, Hansik is one of the country's top four traditional holidays along with Seollal (Lunar New Year), Dano and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), and its custom of eating cold food remains to this day. Unlike other royal tombs from the Joseon era that are trimmed seven times per year, grass on Geonwonneung is cut just once a year on Hansik.
