A hojang (local officials) parade on May 22 goes through Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul's Jung-gu District as part of the celebration "Dano, United as One" hosted by a national alliance of Dano festivals. Dano is a traditional holiday marking the arrival of summer on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. Clad in colorful costumes, the numerous members of the parade went to a shrine to Gen. Han, a legendary war hero, to hold an ancestral ritual. Other events included washing hair in water boiled with the herb changpo (sweet iris).
