Gwacheon National Science Museum (GNSM) is presenting science programs for all the family throughout January 2017.
During the “Moon and Star Open Observation Event,” which takes place on Jan. 07, 2017, visitors will be able to view the moon, Pleiades star cluster, and double cluster in Perseus through a meter-long telescope. A lecture on 2017 celestial events such as the observation of Saturn in June, the partial lunar eclipse in August and a video on constellations projected on a dome-shaped screen are also part of the event.
Hands-on educational programs for different age groups are also available: “Converged Scientific Research” and “Kids’ Maker Studio” for kindergarten and elementary school students; “Science Work Experience” for middle school students; “Winter Maker Academy” for teenagers to adults; and “Science Stroll” for parents.
In the time-machine-themed classes covering “Converged Scientific Research”, children learn about the past, present and future of different scientific fields such as natural history and physics. Children aged 5 to 10 can attend the “Kids’ Maker Studio” and play games such as “balloon cars” and “talk in sign” to learn about science.
In the “Science Work Experience”, students can explore jobs related to promising scientific fields such as robotics and nanotechnology. For “Winter Maker Academy”, participants can create scientific products through “Reverse Invention Class”, “3D Printing”, “Fun Coding” and “Movie-maker”. Adults can sign up for the “Science Stroll” which offers a commentary on exhibition, special lectures from experts from different scientific fields and other experimental activities.
GNSM offers the “Science Stroll” program which includes commentary on featured exhibitions, special lectures and science experiments.
The special exhibition “Fascinating Science” from Questacon, the National Science and Technology Center of Australia, opens from Jan. 20, 2017. Visitors will be able to engage in subjects such as human perception, physical phenomena and mathematical puzzles. The 26 interactive exhibits include: “Pick Up Points”, “Appearing Pencil” and “Thread the Needle.”
An educational musical titled "Iron Firefighters Fire Robo” and an outdoor sledding slope will also attract visitors.

“The winter programs allow participants to learn about science through experience, not just text,” said an official from GNSM. “It may be an opportunity for family members to get closer to one other and create an unforgettable experience together,” he added.
