A video of a Samsung Galaxy smartphone saving a Ukrainian soldier's life by stopping a Russian bullet has gone viral on the internet.
The clip uploaded on April 19 on Reddit (
www.reddit.com), a San Francisco-based social news and discussion site, indicated that the soldier was saved by the smartphone after it stopped a bullet fired by Russian forces.
Posted on the community section "Ukraine War Video Report," the video shows the soldier taking cover and pulling a smartphone out of his pocket to show a fellow soldier. The bullet was shown lodged in his smartphone but did not penetrate his military ID tag and phone case.
The soldier said in the video, "What saved my life is merely this mobile phone and my military ID tag."
Vitaliy Kim, governor of the Ukrainian administrative region Mykolayiv Oblast, said on his social media after seeing the clip, "This happens during war," adding, "The Ukrainian soldier was lucky."
The video received over 380 comments on Reddit like "It's similar to the story of a soldier in World War I saved by a coin," "A prayer book or the Bible used to play that role," and "I have the same mobile phone and it seems bulletproof."
Yonhap News of Korea said that based on the shape and size of its case, the smartphone is believed to be a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE released early this year or a Galaxy S20+ that came out in 2020.
