An exhibition is displaying the present and future of the country's cutting-edge technologies to mark the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

Businesspeople from home and abroad on the morning of Oct. 29 visited an air dome pavilion covering 1,652 square m at Gyeongju Expo Grand Park to see the K-Tech Showcase. The event features the latest innovative know-how of leading domestic companies including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK and Hyundai Motor Group like mobility, robotics and smart home technology.

The automaker presented its core technologies for future sectors such as hydrogen, purpose-based mobility and robotics.

Samsung Electronics impressed visitors by unveiling the world's first "trifold" phone with a dual-hinge design that allows it to fold inward from both edges. LG rolled out LG Signature OLED T, a large installation of chandelier comprising 28 transparent and wireless 77-inch OLED TVs.


SK presented its technology for artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem that integrates AI data centers, semiconductors and communications infrastructure.

Across from the APEC Economic Exhibition Hall was K-Business Square, which attracted a steady stream of visitors and media personnel. Under the theme "A Future Built on Legacy," the facility covered the nation's industrial development, advanced technology and cultural heritage.

A popular spot was the section for an AI drawing robot that creates portraits based on the art of popular cartoonist and Gyeongsangbuk-do native Lee Hyun-se. When a visitor took a seat, the GPT-installed robot took a photo and finished the drawing after analyzing the subject's face.

The gizmo took 2 1/2 minutes to perform its task, and while doing so, it held a humorous chat with and answered questions from a reporter.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering also introduced an AI-based interpretation system that supports 17 languages to help multilateral workers at the company's shipyard. And the advanced domestic medical company Lunit showcased its AI-powered solution for diagnosing and detecting 10 common abnormalities found in chest X-rays.
