Various pear-themed recipes have attracted media attention recently.
A wide range of foods using pears were showcased at a cooking contest held by the Rural Development Administration (RDA) on January 3 in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province).
The chefs used pear flesh, powdered pear, dried pear slices and pear juice to make menu items such as raw beef, sliced radish rolls, sliced beef rolls and seasoned green laver with pears. They also made drinks, such as pear tea, pear and ginger syrup and pear extract, and desserts like pear canapé, pear pizza with tortillas, pear jam cakes and pear muffins.
Pear mini cakes and a pear tart were selected as the best recipes. Steamed noodles with pear salad and pear jam cakes received runner-up prizes.

The RDA said, “Pears are good food ingredients, as they go well with all kinds of food thanks to their mild flavor, which makes any dish tastier. We will upload photos of the winners of our cooking contest and their recipes at an online café for pear lovers (
