A so-called “media café” has opened in central Seoul, allowing people to meet and communicate with journalists.
Launched on Aug. 1 near Hongik University, an area known for its youthful crowds, the [Hu:] café offers newspaper readers the chance to see up-close how events that are taking place across the nation can be turned into news coverage and how the news reaches its consumers.

The [Hu:] café features a recording studio for podcasting.

The open stage at the [Hu:] café hosts a variety of lectures and events.

The [Hu:] media café allows people in the news industry to meet and communicate with their readers, listeners and viewers, as well as to produce their own news content.
Befitting a media café, [Hu:] is equipped with facilities and equipment for content production, including a recording studio for podcasts, a live-broadcasting room for news coverage and a sound control room. In the recording studio in particular, some famous radio and podcast programs are recorded every Thursday.
Next to the well-equipped studio are conference and study rooms, all built with transparent glass. In these rooms, journalists can have meetings or interviews. Customers, too, especially college students, are allowed to study together or have meetings there as long as a reservation is made in advance.

A television, fixed on the wall, broadcasts live news or what’s going on inside the studio for the coffee-sippers outside to watch. Next to the television are newspapers and books stacked on the shelves.

Jeong In-tak, director of the strategic planning division at the Hankyoreh, a newspaper, says, 'We will distribute a wide range of information to our readers, not only online, but also offline from this café.
“This café aims at becoming a venue where progressive, promising young people can mingle with one another, sharing the news and other information,” said Jeong In-tak, director of the strategic planning division at the Hankyoreh, the newspaper that launched this café.
