The Korean Education Fair opens in Tehran on Oct. 20 for the first time in Iran, attracting hundreds of local students to information booths about a wide range of Korean universities.

An education fair to promote Korean universities was held last week in Tehran, the first exhibition of its kind in the Middle East.

On Oct. 20, the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) opened the Korean Education Fair at the Korean Embassy in Iran. The event was attended by over 1,100 people, including students, parents and educators interested in studying abroad in Korea.

Advisors from 12 Korean universities, including Sungkyunkwan University and Ajou University, were at the fair to introduce their schools and to advise students on the application process. The NIIED also had a booth where visitors could learn about the Korean education system, required visas, and international student scholarships eligible to Iranian students, like the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS).

An international student team representative from Sungkyunkwan University said, "A considerable number of students showed a high level of proficiency in Korean, and many local students attending prestigious Iranian universities handed in their personal statements. I was very inspired by the enthusiasm shown by the students I met today."

At the fair, the Korea Maritime and Ocean University recruited two graduate students and one undergraduate student for its programs.

"I'm so happy that a Korean Education Fair opened in Iran," said Zahra Zhamari, a student who travelled eight hours by bus from Yazd Province to attend the event. "I really hope that another fair will open near my hometown next time."
