Cheong Wa Dae opened the doors to President Moon Jae-in’s private study on Aug. 17, marking 100 days since his inauguration.
The presidential study has approximately 580 books stacked on the shelves, many of which were recommended by the public between May 25 and July 12. These were books that the people wanted to share with the president or books that they hoped would help the president while governing the country.
Among the volumes are books recommended by well-known literary figures or celebrities, such as novelist Hwang Sok-yong, poet Shin Dalja, cartoonist Lee Hyun-se, baseball player Choo Shin-soo and actress Kim Yeo-jin. There are also books from other walks of life, including books by workers, housewives and students. The subjects of the books vary from the economy and social studies through to the arts, welfare and security.
“The presidential study, the place closest to the president, represents the president’s philosophy wherein he’s willing to continue listening to the public up-close and to communicate more with them in the future, as he has done over the past 100 days,” said Senior Presidential Secretary for Social Innovation Ha Seung-chang.
