The Seoul Metropolitan Fire & Disaster Headquarters announced on June 7 that it would send 119 fire trucks to 11 countries, including Peru, the Philippines and Mongolia, in an effort to help those countries improve the quality of their first responders and disaster response teams.
According to the Seoul fire and disaster headquarters, since 2012 the metropolitan region has supplied a total of 69 fire engines to developing economies and 22 more will be sent this year. Vehicles to be sent include pumper trucks, water tank trucks, command support units, ambulances, rescue vehicles, and chemical response trucks that use a dry fire suppressant.
The cost required to ship the trucks will be covered partly by the metropolitan government’s economic development cooperation fund (EDCF) and partly by the recipient governments.
