The number of people receiving at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine on Sept. 5 exceeded 30 million, a milestone reached 192 days after the government started national vaccination on Feb. 26.
The government task force on vaccination against COVID-19 on Sept. 5 said that as of 11:15 a.m., 30,000,100 people had received at least one shot, or 58.4% of the population of 51,349,116 (as of late December 2020).
The majority of adults aged over 18 (67.9%) received their first shots and 17,747,159 or 34.6% of the overall population were fully vaccinated, including those who received the single-shot Janssen vaccine.
The task force said, "As vaccinations and reserve vaccinations launched on Aug. 26 for people ages 18-49 have exceeded daily targets, the goal of giving 36 million people at least one shot before the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) holidays is expected to come without a hitch."
