The K-pop girl group NewJeans has been appointed a promotional ambassador for the city of Seoul.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon on Feb. 16 officially made the appointment at a ceremony hosted by Seoul City Hall in the capital's Jung-gu District.

The group will carry out promotional activities for the city under the vision of "people who love and talk about Seoul."

NewJeans said, "This is the city where we met Bunnies (the group's official fan club)," adding, "It's truly an honor for us to promote Seoul, which holds lots of precious memories for not only us but for the public as well."

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it selected the group to match the tastes of people who are sensitive to rapidly changing media trends.

The other ambassadors were appointed along with NewJeans: YouTube creator Syukaworld, TikTok creator On Oppa, singers Lee Seok-hoon and Sean, comedian Kim Yong-myung, psychiatrist brothers Yangbro, veteran actors Roh Joo-hyun and Kil Yong-woo, and the announcer couple of Oh Sang-jin and Kim So-young.
