RM, the leader of K-pop sensation BTS, is the new promotional ambassador for the Ministry of National Defense Agency for Killed in Action Recovery & Identification.

Domestic media outlets including Yonhap News on May 31 said the agency will officially appoint RM to the post on June 1.

The agency searches for and identifies soldiers who went missing in giving their lives for their country in the Korean War (1950-53) and recovers their remains for their families.

Launched in April 2000, the agency as of last year found 13,121 bodies including those of soldiers from the United Nations, North Korea and China.

RM will take part in activities to promote the agency's recovery projects to the public.
